    • 1). Wrap the hook on one end of the tow chain around the center of the rear or front axle of the vehicle that is being pulled.

    • 2). Connect the hook into the first link in the chain you can reach while still keep the chain tight around the axle, or into one of the four frame points, or carrier hole near the nearest tire. The carrier hole is an elongated hole and is designed to receive special attachments such as a chain hook.

    • 3). Wrap the chain around the center of the rear axle of the vehicle that will perform the tow.

    • 4). Connect the hook on this end of the chain into the first link you can reach while still keep the chain tight around the axle, or into one of the four frame points, or carrier hole near the nearest rear tire.

    • 5). Drive the vehicle that is towing the other vehicle forward slowly. Drive the vehicle forward until the chain is snug.

    • 6). Inspect the snug chain to make sure it is still secure. There should be six to 10 feet of distance between the two vehicles.

    • 7). Turn the ignition in the vehicle being towed and place the transmission in neutral. The person driving the front vehicle can then go forward. The vehicle being towed will need to keep a safe distance behind at all times. Therefore when the front vehicle brakes, the rear vehicle will also need to brake.
