How to Track the Status of a Bill Submitted to Congress
- 1). Search for Thomas at the Library of Congress website or go to Thomas.loc.gov.
- 2). Search for a bill from the main page of Thomas by using keywords or the bill number. You can also browse bills by sponsor by selecting a representative or senator. Type in the information in the box provided and click the search button.
- 3). Select from the "Weekly Top Five" on Thomas. This is a list of bills that are newsworthy and particularly of note.
- 4). Click on "Bills, Resolutions" on the Thomas main page. This enables you to find many options for locating legislation and as well as information about legislation.
- 5). Search "Bill Text" from the 101st Congress (1989) to the current Congress, "Bill Summary and Status" from the 93rd Congress (1973) to the current Congress or "Multiple Congresses" from the 101st to the present. The 2009/2010 Congress is the 111th.
