How to Make a Millet Bird Treat
- 1). Spread newspaper on a flat work surface such as a table or the floor. Pour the millet into a large bowl, and set it on the newspaper-covered work surface. Place a damp washcloth in a bowl, and set it on the work surface to have nearby for sticky fingers.
- 2). Cut string to the desired length for hanging the millet treat from a tree or bird feeder stand. Tie the string around the top of the pinecone. Spread peanut butter thickly onto the pinecone with the knife.
- 3). Place the peanut butter covered pinecone in the bowl of millet, and roll it around -- pressing the millet gently into the peanut butter with your fingers. Then set it on a tray. If you like, you can also make a second bird treat that's slightly different, by mixing birdseed in with the millet and rolling another pinecone coated with peanut butter.
- 4). Hang the finished pinecones where birds can reach them, and where you can see them feeding.
- 5). Pour the rest of the millet and birdseed mix into airtight containers for later use.
