• Trying to come up with the perfect cake idea for that special person can be frustrating. Many people will opt for a plain cake or purchase a store-made cake, which can be quite expensive. Regardless if it is a birthday or any other celebration you are planning, if your special someone is a baseball fan, there are many baseball-themed cakes you can easily make and not spend a fortune doing it.
  
  

Cake Pans

• Companies sell cake pans in shapes of different objects. Wilton sells a round cake pan that will allow you to make a baseball-shaped cake. Once the cake has been made according to the mold's instructions, remove it from the mold and allow it to cool. Then use a star-tipped piping bag to decorate the cake with white icing, and add stitching to the ball using red icing.
  
  

The Field

• To make a baseball diamond, you will need an 8-inch round cake and an 8-by-8-inch square cake. Once the cakes have cooled, cut both cakes in half, making sure the square cake is cut from corner to corner to form a triangle. Place the cut side of the round cake against the cut side of the square cake. This will make the shape of the field. Use brown and green icing to make the infield and outfield. For the grass, use a star tip or green dyed coconut. For the dirt, you can use graham cracker crumbs. Use white icing to make the baselines, the bases and the pitcher's mound.
  
  

Cupcakes

• If you would like to make cupcakes instead of one large cake, make your cupcakes and allow them to cool. Ice the tops of the cupcakes with store-bought white icing. Then, use icing that you have dyed red to pipe on the half-circle baseball stitching design.
  
  

Baseball Bat

• If you would like to create a baseball bat-shaped cake to either serve on its own or next to a baseball-shaped cake or cupcake, you will need to make a half sheet cake. Once the cake is cool, cut the cake into three pieces horizontally. Place all three of the sections you cut end to end so they form a long line. Use a serrated knife to carve the cake into a bat shape, then ice it with brown or tan icing.
