How to Purchase Gourd Seeds
- 1). Visit local nurseries in spring to select seeds or contact online sites that carry gourd seeds.
- 2). Choose the type of seeds suited for your purpose. For small, lumpy or striped gourds, like those used in seasonal fall displays, try White Egg, Orange Warted, Small Spoon, Aladdin's Turban or Bi-color Pear. If you plan to make bird houses or implements, select lagenaria varieties, such as Bird House, Long Handled Dipper or Big Bottle. For luffa-type gourds, try Luffa or Mini Luffa.
- 3). Buy the seeds. One seed packet is plenty for most gardeners, unless you have a lot of room and want to grow several varieties. Like pumpkins, gourds are sprawling plants that need 3 to 5 feet of space to grow well.
