    • 1). Place two of the 2-by-4 boards side by side on the ground. These are the vertical frame supports for the screen. Cut another 2-by-4 board to measure 44 inches long. This is the top cross beam for the privacy screen.

    • 2). Place the top beam perpendicular to the two vertical support posts, at one end. The ends of the top beam should be flush with the outside edges of the support posts.

    • 3). Attach the top beam to the support beams with 3-inch-long decking screws. The total width of the privacy screen frame is 4 feet from the outside edges of the vertical support posts. The total height of the frame is 8 feet, 2 inches.

    • 4). Lay a 4-by-8 wood lattice panel on top of the privacy frame. The outside edges of the lattice panel should be flush with the outside edges of the frame. The side posts of the frame will extend 2 inches beyond the base of the lattice frame.

    • 5). Attach the lattice panel to the wood frame with 3/8-inch-long decking screws. Place the screws every 4 inches around the perimeter of the frame.

    • 6). Attach metal brackets to the deck rails where you plan to stand the privacy screen. Place one bracket to coordinate with each side post. Attach the privacy frame to the brackets with decking screws.

    • 7). Seal the privacy screen with wood sealer. You can also stain it or prime and paint it to coordinate with your deck decor.
