Scalp Treatment for Hair Loss

    Scalp Massage

    • Perform a scalp massage during and after shampooing. Use the pads of your fingers to massage your scalp. Massage the scalp from the back of the neck. Use both hands to work the left and right sides of the scalp. Use circular motions when massaging the scalp. The tips of your fingers on both hands should eventually meet at the crown of your head. Massaging the scalp helps stimulate blood flow and loosen particles of dirt, dust and oil that can clog pores.

    DHT Inhibitor

    • Use a DHT inhibitor such as Propecia, Rogaine or saw palmetto. Using a DHT inhibitor helps hair grow by preventing the formation of Dihydrotestosterone in the scalp. Dihydrotestosterone is a potent form of the hormone testosterone that can effectively starve the hair shaft when levels of DHT in the hair follicle become elevated.

    Alternating Shampoos

    • Alternate between shampoos containing coal tar, zinc and salicylic acid. Coal tar, zinc and salicylic acid treat and prevent the buildup of sebum in the scalp. Production of excess sebum in the scalp has been shown to cause diffuse hair loss. Use one shampoo each time you wash your hair. Leave the shampoo in the hair for a minimum of five minutes. Follow the shampooing with a gentle conditioner or a conditioner made of a 50-50 solution of vinegar and water. Repeat the scalp massage as you apply the conditioner to your hair and scalp. Leave the conditioner in your hair for a minimum of five minutes.
