    • 1). Unplug the dryer. Pull it out from the wall so you can access the hoses behind it.

    • 2). Open the door to the lint trap, which is usually on the top of the dryer or inside the drum. Remove the lint trap. Use a small brush to remove the lint on the lint trap and dispose of the lint.

    • 3). Rinse the trap under running water and scrub it gently with a scrub brush to remove any built-up fabric softener that decreases the trap's efficiency. Let the trap air dry.

    • 4). Insert your vacuum's hose attachment into the lint trap housing and vacuum out any lint present. If the hose will not fit, insert a bottle brush into the housing and gently lift out the lint. Replace the lint trap in the housing.

    • 5). Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer. Insert the hose of your vacuum into the vent hose and suck out the lint in the hose.

    • 6). Remove the back panel from the dryer by following the manufacturer's instructions. Some panels are screwed in place, and others come off when you pull on them. Use the vacuum hose to vacuum any lint off the drum and heating elements in the back of the dryer. Replace the back panel and reconnect the vent hose.

    • 7). Slide the vacuum hose under the dryer to remove any lint trapped there. Wipe down the exterior surface of the dryer with a damp cloth.
