Being the first book in the spellbinding series of British author J.
K.
Rowling, the fantasy work, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" also re-titled as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" in United States has received a critical acclaim and huge commercial success world wide, and has also captured the heart of young and old invariably.
With the story centering on the boy called Harry Potter and his adventures in a totally anomalous world of wizards and in the quest of wrecking his revenge against the Dark Lord of Wizards Voldemort, discovering his ruthless hand (wand!) behind his parents death, the pipeline of the story plunges into the interesting fact finding hunt of Harry Potter.
The author deserves her plaudit for her exceptional talent in moulding the characters in and around The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, consisting of the teachers, students, the partially transparent ghosts, the subjects and finally not to forget the Headmaster of Hogwarts.
The author has invented plenty of imaginary elements like the non-existent "Platform 9¾ at King Cross railway station in London, with "Muggles" (non-magical people), and the "sorting hat" which daintily sits on the stool and awaits every new Hogwatarian for the sorting ceremony with its lilting song.
Harry Potter's expedition to save the philosophers stone from the nefarious Voldemort forms the main crux of the story.
Harry Potter's lighter moments begins when he finds his new friends Ronald Wesley and Hermione Granger at the atypical school which he later loves more than anything.
This book has made its mark and stands strong espousing the following six sequels in line.
For anyone who reads the book for the first time, is sure to take a journey to the land of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and its well furnished girls/boys dormitory.
Harry's experience in the busy Diagon alley where people are gushing to buy new spell books, robes, wands and their owls and feeling of warmth when he holds his brand knew phoenix feather wand for the first time makes the reader feel the same jolt in stomach as Harry.
The game of wizards "Quidditch" passes a creative wave across those warm grounds of Hogwarts.
Those score board gantry in appropriate shades of red and green most commonly bearing a lion or snake as its emblem, a garrulous commentary ( by a senior student of Hogwarts) with the description of players swarming in the air in their broomsticks has left the story earn its brownie points in the list of worlds bestsellers.
The entire story line is beautifully woven to produce a tapestry of miraculous incidents which is something similar to the invisible -cloak that Harry Potter is gifted with.
As such the story does not fall back on any rudiments and is connected evenly with the sequels.
The filming of the movies by Warner Bros based on the story is one more credit that the long expected Bloomsbury publication has by its side.
This book is as fabulous as the others, with new surprises awaiting in every page.
The book is worth reading a thousand times and will leave the reader with the indelible image of the boy who bore the lighting bolt scar.
