What do you love doing?
First, think about what you love doing. If you are passionate about what you sell, it will show and you'll sell more. If you could care less and are only doing it for a job, that will show too! - 2
Consider Entire Compensation Package
As you start to look at companies that sell products or services that you are passionate about, look for positions that offer a base salary and commission your sales. Ideally, they will also offer bonuses for salespeople that meet quarterly and annual quotas as well. - 3
Decide if Travel is an Option
Decide if you want to travel as part of your ideal sales job. Many sales positions will require travel and while it can be exciting and fun to visit lots of new places, it can also take a heavy toll on your personal life. If you do decide to take a sales job that requires travel, see if the company offers any perks to employees that travel such as allowing you to keep your airline miles or offering comp days for time spent out of town. If not, try to negotiate some of these things when accepting a position. - 4
Company Training is Important
Look for companies that offer quality training to their sales team. On-going training and support will be critical to your success in any sales position. - 5
Get Your Own Training
Get training on your own, especially if you are new to sales. This type of training will better prepare you for success and will make you more appealing to potential employers. - 6). Start at a lower position and work up
If you are brand new to sales, consider trying to get a job within the sales department of a company that you are interested in. Let your superiors know that you are interested in working directly in sales and your goal is to have your own territory at some time. Ask to be allowed to sit in on sales meetings. Show that you want it, and you will reach your goals. Even if it doesn't happen with the first company you work for, you will have valuable skills to take with you. - 8

Don't give up, ever! Continue to work towards your sales job goals at all times. You may have to take a position that isn't perfect for you to make money, but use that as a stepping stone to gaining more experience so you can soon find your perfect position.
