Armadillos are unusual animals and are also considered ancient just like the anteaters. These creatures survive in places that have warm climate such as Florida and Texas. Armadillos dig through soft soil because they are in search for other tiny creatures such as earthworms and grubs that serve to be their food. Since they dig very well, as expected they tend to destroy your lawn creating such a mess. You may be wondering about the large, deep holes you see on your yard and chances are they are the ones made by armadillos.
Getting rid of them would involve different exterminator techniques such as trapping them and using physical barriers. Just follow these simple methods to get rid of armadillos on your garden.

•    Prevent them or keep them from getting into your lawn by creating physical barriers such as fences that are made of metal which serve to be sturdy and durable enough. Special fences designed to effectively keep armadillos away are available in local hard wares. Make sure you put them in place according to the instructions.

•    Employ scare tactics to drive armadillos away. They get easily frightened though they still tend to come back to your location after some time. Scents that are able to scare them off are ammonia, naphthalene or moth balls, and predator urine. Predator urine is sold in hardware stores. Simply spray the urine or spread the ammonia and moth balls all over those areas where you don't want them to enter.

Take note that these substances do not cause death to armadillos. They are just enough to scare them off and drive them away. So do not worry about poisoning and harm to your family and pets. Remember to utilize these on a regular basis to be more effective.

•    Traps made for armadillos are available. Simply position them in those areas frequently visited by armadillos. Trapping them may involve a lot of patience and perseverance since it may take a few days for them to be caught. Once an armadillo is caught, it can then be relocated to a different area far from your place or you can surrender the animal to the wildlife protection office.

Getting rid of armadillos is not that easy. The most common and practical ways are by means of trapping and removing them. In dealing with these animals, also keep in mind that there are legislations that protect them, and if you wish to remove them you must strictly adhere to the protocols of your state.
