Throwing the Swerve Ball in Bowling to Hit the Pocket
- 1). Approach the shot as you would for a normal shot. As you release the ball, start turning your wrist inward as it passes your back knee.
- 2). Release the ball and turn your wrist simultaneously. By the time the ball leaves your hand, it should appear as though you are shaking hands with an imaginary man in front of you. As you release the ball, slide your thumb out first, and pull your fingers up the side of the ball. This will enhance the power of your curve.
- 3). Continue this follow through until your thumb touches your temple on the same side as your hand (right temple for a right-handed throw). You do not need to actually touch your temple, but your hand should follow through close enough that you could do so. Hold this form until the ball reaches the pins. This helps you see if your form is correct, and you can visualize how your form affects the ball.
- 4). Practice your curve until you know how much hook it has. Adjust your starting position by moving from side to side until your hook is hitting the pocket on a regular basis. Once you find that position, remember it by referencing the location of markers like the small boards and the arrows on the lane.
