How to Clean Brass Pipe
- 1). Fill the kitchen sink with warm water and mix in some dishwashing liquid. Soak the brass pipe in the soapy water for a couple minutes and lightly scrub the inside of the pipe with the pipe cleaner, using a back-and-forth, round-and-round motion. Use the cotton rag to scrub the outside of the pipe lightly.
- 2). Boil water in a non-aluminum pot. Place small brass pipes in the water. Add 2 tsp. each of baking soda and washing soda. Let the pipe set in the boiling water for a couple minutes to remove any lacquer finish that may be present on the brass surface.
- 3). Take the pipe out of the boiling water with a pair of tongs and place the pipe on a towel to cool. Make a cleaning paste out of salt and lemon juice. Stir the paste until you have thoroughly mixed the ingredients.
- 4). Dip the cotton rag into the paste and work the cleaner inside and out of the pipe. Lightly scrub the outside of the pipe with the rag and cleaner. Use the piper cleaner tool to scrub the inside of the pipe until the tarnish is gone.
- 5). Use olive oil to lightly coat the inside and outside of the brass pipe. Wipe away any excess olive oil from the exterior and interior of the pipe.
