How to Make a Shark Fin Hat
- 1). Layer the two pieces of foam, matching the edges. Draw the fin shape on the foam. The tip of the fin will curve to the back when the hat is on. To make the front curve, draw a curved line from the lower right corner to the upper left corner. Draw another curved line from the lower left corner to the upper left corner for the back of the fin.
- 2). Pin the pieces together inside the line and cut along the lines to make the fin shape. Baste along the curved edges with a long blanket stitch and remove the pins. Leave the bottom open.
- 3). Try on the hat. If it is too big, make the opening smaller at both ends and pin together. Remove the hat and sew the opening where you placed the pins; remove the pins. If the hat is too small, open the bottom of the back seam about 1 to 2 inches to fit the wearer. Reinforce the stitching where the seam begins above the opening.
- 4). Sew the curved sides with a narrow blanket stitch and remove the basting. Reinforce the bottoms of both seams so the stitching won't rip out when the hat is put on.
