Thinking of going on a diet? Can't make the decision to get started? There are many people just like you. The thought of going through the whole diet rigmarole can be a daunting prospect, particularly if you have been there before.

Every day, every month, every year, there are more and more people who are joining the serial dieters club. The problem is that all the members of this unique club are unwilling conscripts not enthusiastic supporters.

Serial dieting is actually more of a problem than most of the members of the club realize. Why? Because serial dieting can cause physical and psychological problems.

Physical problems arise because every time you go on a diet you lose some of your muscle mass. Continuous dieting can result in a significant loss in muscle mass. Couple that with the fact that there is a natural wasting of muscle mass over the age of 40, and you can see why it's a problem. Muscle is important because it burns calories. You will have a far more efficient metabolism if you have a sound muscle mass.

Serial dieters are serial dieters because diets have not delivered lasting weight loss. Constantly failing to reduce weight permanently can be very depressing and psychologically damaging.
So, if you want to get thinner and shed some of those unwanted pounds it might be a good idea to look for a better way to lose weight other than going on a diet.

The first thing to do is to examine your eating and lifestyle habits. Notice what you are eating a lot of. See if your intake of sugar, salt and saturated fat is sensible. If it's not, then make changes. Redo your weekly shopping list. Ditch all the ready meals and plan to head off to the fruit and vegetable section in the supermarket next time you visit.
