How to Teach Bible Truths to Preschool Children
- 1). Select a predesigned curriculum. A premade curriculum offers the advantage of step by step lessons, which outline all you must do and all the materials you need.
- 2). Focus on one simple truth you want the children to learn. Repeat it at least three to five times throughout the lesson -- at the beginning, middle and the end. Children can grasp basic concepts, such as "Jesus loves me" or "God answers prayers." Have them say the truth with you as you review the material.
- 3). Start with a song. Children enjoy music and a simple song will gain their attention and prepare them to learn. For example, if the lesson is about God's love, the children's song, "Jesus Loves Me" ties in well.
- 4). Teach the lesson. Keep it short, about 10 minutes, so the children stay engaged. Every activity teaches and emphasizes Bible truths, so don't fret if the lesson is short. Ask children questions to make sure they are on track.
- 5). Do a craft activity with the children. This can be as simple as a coloring page, working together on a wall mural or making a foam picture that ties in with the lesson. This is a good way to get the children to remember the lesson afterward as it reinforces the principals taught.
- 6). Prepare an object lesson or use puppets to emphasize the Bible truth for about 5 minutes.
- 7). Take the children outside if possible. They will enjoy the break and the exercise will improve their learning and memory. If the weather does not permit outside activity, play an interactive game, even one as simple as "Duck, Duck, Goose."
- 8). Incorporate a memory verse and a Bible story picture book for the last 5 minutes of class.
