    Storing Oranges

    • 1). Sit oranges out at a room temperature around 60 F in places such as a shed or garage. The oranges will last within two to three weeks.

    • 2). Place the oranges in the refrigerator at a temperature range between 38 and 48 F. Leave the oranges in the refrigerator for three to eight weeks. The colder you store the oranges, the longer they will last in the refrigerator.

    • 3). Store the oranges away from raw meat, poultry and fish. The juices can contaminate the oranges.

    • 4). Maintain the humidity between 90 and 95 percent for best results. This prevents the oranges from drying out and losing too much moisture.

    Orange Care

    • 1). Purchase the amount of oranges that you plan to use within three to four days for best results. Select oranges that have a shiny surface, firm flesh and a uniform orange color.

    • 2). Wash oranges only before you plan to peel or cut them. Run the oranges under cool water and rub on them to remove dirt and debris. Dry the oranges off with paper towels.

    • 3). Refrigerate sliced oranges in an airtight container within two hours of cutting. Leaving the oranges out at room temperature for longer than two hours can cause dangerous bacteria to grow.

    • 4). Throw away oranges that show signs of mold, slime or spoilage.
