How to Upholster With Fabric
- 1). Take the cushions off the chairs by removing the screws that attach them. Remove all the tacks fastening the fabric to the seat. Strip the fabric off the cushion seat. Check to see if the cotton batting is torn. If so, remove it also. Place the fabric over the wooden portion of the seat and cut a piece of the fabric, leaving 3 inches on the sides. Replace the cotton batting. Stretch the fabric over the cotton batting and staple the sides of the fabric to the bottom of the cushion seat so it fits snugly.
- 2). Take the cushions off the couch. Carefully cut the cushion covers at the bottom edge and the two sides next to it in a straight line. Do the same on all four corners of the cushion cover. Remove the cover and lay it flat over the fabric. Cut out from the fabric a piece the exact size of the cushion cover. Stitch the new fabric onto the cushion. Do this for all cushions.
- 3). Measure the size of the dining table, using a measuring tape. If the table is not rectangular or square, take everything off the dining table, then take the fabric and lay it over the dining table so that it completely covers it. Let some of the fabric hang down from all the sides of the dining table so that it reaches a little above the chairs that go under the table. Mark out this extra bit of fabric on all sides and cut the fabric according to the marking. Stitch the edges of the fabric and lay it over the dining table. This can be repeated for any table in the house.
