A Halloween party for preteenagers should be full of fun activities that the guests believe are more than just kids games. Your guests who are nearing teenage years have moved beyond games like pin the witch on the broom and require something a little more stimulating. Keep in mind though that while your guests may think they're adults already, they are still kids and they will enjoy games that are silly and well thought out. - While many preteens may feel they have graduated beyond being read ghost stories, most of them will not object to creating their own stories. Turn off all of the lights and have all of the kids sit around in a circle with some spooky music playing in the background. Have one child start the story with a few sentences and then have him pass it on to the next child to continue it. Each child will add a few new details to this weird and wacky Halloween story. Tape the story without the children knowing so that you can play it back immediately for additional laughs.
- Have each of the children sit in a circle. Devise a way to tell one of them that they are a murderer without letting everyone else know (like slips of paper with marks on them or marking the underside of a chair). Have all of the players close their eyes. The murderer can then open his eyes when you cue him and he can point out who he wants to kill. The murderer then closes his eyes. Have all of them open their eyes and tell them who was killed in the last turn. They can then all guess who the murderer was. If they guess right, the game ends and a new murderer is chosen. If they don't, another turn occurs and the murderer chooses another victim. If he kills everybody before they can guess, he wins the game.
- Since many younger kids are afraid to bob for apples, apple bobbing is a perfect game to play at a preteen Halloween party. Place a bunch of apples in a tub of water and have the kids attempt to bite and pick up an apple without using their hands. Add an element of surprise by labeling some of the apples as special apples that come with a prize. Any game that encourages children to eat fruit at a candy-filled holiday is a winner.
- This game requires two small pumpkins that a child can fit between his chin and his neck. Divide the children into two teams and give each one of them a pumpkin. They must relay the pumpkin from person to person using just their neck and chins and no hands. The game can be played by alternating boys and girls or at random. The pumpkin must be passed all the way to the end of the line and then back. The team that gets the pumpkin back first wins.
