How to Remove Cyanoacrylate Adhesive

    • 1). Test an inconspicuous location with liquid acetone or nail polish remover containing acetone. Acetone can dissolve some plastics and can eat paint or finish off surfaces. If you are removing cyanoacrylate adhesive from skin, acetone can be very drying to skin.

    • 2). Soak a cotton ball or the corner of a towel with acetone and hold it over the cyanoacrylate adhesive for several seconds.

    • 3). Use the back of a butter knife to gently scrape any loosened cyanoacrylate adhesive. If you are using the acetone on skin, be careful pulling against your skin as you can tear away layers of skin. Go slowly and apply more acetone as needed.

    • 4). Wipe down the area with a clean, damp cloth or towel. For skin, wash the area with warm water and a small amount of mild soap.
