How to Grow Turmeric Plants
- 1). Obtain fresh turmeric root. They can be found at Asian markets and natural foods stores. They are sometimes treated so they will not root so soak the root pieces in water for several hours changing the water frequently (do not use the water for plants since the anti root hormone may harm them)
- 2). Fill the container with a mixture of the seed starting mi and sand. Place the turmeric pieces on top and lightly cover the pieces with more of the seed starting mix and sand. Water lightly.
- 3). Place the container in a bright warm spot. Do not allow to totally dry out but do not keep wet since the roots will spoil. It may take a long time (months) for dormancy to be broken. If some of the roots rot, remove them. I grow plants using this method although not a high rate so start with several turmeric pieces so you can get at least a couple of plants.
