How to Make Friends at Church
- 1). Compliment people. If they make a comment in bible study or during a sharing session, let them know how much it meant to you. Relate your experience of belief to theirs as shared. It's just like school or a new job; if you like someone's hair style or clothes, tell them. Then see if they return the volley by asking things of you.
- 2). Use your kids. Children make friends sometimes faster and more easily than grown ups. So, if your child is hitting it off with a certain kid, introduce yourself to the parent(s). Church is a good place to share ideas about how to raise children in a changing world. Share your values and exchange suggestions of good school programs or online learning sites that support your beliefs.
- 3). Volunteer. Offer to bring donuts, do flowers or participate in the collection process. Make sure that the process requires a meeting or two where you can have some time with people on a smaller scale. If you feel connected to someone, hang out and ask them for extra advice on how to help. If you have served as a Deacon or choir assistant director previously in a church setting, let people know that you are interested in helping out at your new church, too.
- 4). Go to groups and bible study. Situations like this can be a great place to voice your opinions and get involved. Don't overdo it by trying to play pastor. Just be yourself.
