2. The first rule would definitely be to be able to resist one self from stopping at every shop one sees. It is always better to study a bit about one's requirements and then follow it priority wise. It is best to go with the variety which appeals you the most.

3. When entering the tasting room, it is not a bad idea to speak of your preference and let your self be guided to that particular table by the experienced staff. It is better to go directly to your preference rather than trying hither and thither.

4. The basic or the fundamental rule of the wine tasting is to taste the lightest wine first and save the richest for the last. The simple logic behind this is that the stronger wines effect the palate and then the other tastes cannot be experienced and analyzed.

5. The best way to hold the glass is from the stem as wine has the capacity to get affected by different temperatures.

6. It is always recommended to observe the wine when it is being poured in the glass. This mere observation can be a deciding factor in assessing the quality of the wine. The other rule that goes with it is to observe the glass in the light to see the color and the clarity of the wine. While seeing, tilt the glass to see the legs i.e the streaks which indicate more content of alcohol and sugars.

7. Next rule is to swirl the wine in the glass. The basic idea behind this is to provide oxygen to the wine so that its actual flavors come out.

8. After swirling, its the time to take a sip. So sip and take a deep breath. Make sure that this sip reaches your entire mouth and cover the entire palate. Only when it reaches every area, the actual taste can be ascertained.

9. Spitting forms a major rule for wine tasting. It is important because if you don't spit then different flavors will keep mixing with one another and you will not be able to decide on what to take. It is also advisable to let the vapors come out of your nose and spit regularly. But if you want to avoid spitting then take small sips. You can also take notes and click photos which will make the choice easy for you.

10. The last and most important rule is to write your assessment and do not hesitate to ask questions to the staff present in the tasting room. Get comfortable with the other people in the room and you will get to see other's tastes too.

Wine tasting is like a festival. Many guided tours are organized for the same. Since there is a lot of varied variety to choose from it is better to be well versed with all the ground rules so that there is no confusion and you pick out the best of the lot.
