How to Change Your Address on a Driver's License in California
- 1). Go to your local DMV office. Make sure to have identification with you such as an old ID, a Social Security card and birth certificate, military ID or passport.
- 2). Complete and obtain a "Driver's License or Identification Card Application" to receive another copy of your driver's license. Make sure to enter in your new address on the form.
- 3). Go up to the window and inform the DMV associate that you need another copy of your license and that your address has changed.
- 4). Pay the necessary fees. A new license containing your new address will be mailed to you.
- 1). Obtain the "Change of Address Form." You can obtain the form online (see Resources), call DMV at 1-800-777-0133 and request that the form be sent to you, or go to your local DMV office in person and request it.
- 2). Complete the form. Enter in your personal information such as your name, driver's license number, new address and old address. Then sign the form.
- 3). Return the form to a local DMV office. There is no fee for this.
