Storybook Costume Ideas
- Dress up as Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz." Wear a short-sleeved dress that is made of blue gingham and flares out at the waist. Braid your hair into pigtails and wear folded-down, lacy socks and a pair of sparkling red high-heeled shoes. Carry a small stuffed dog with you as Toto.
- Another classic storybook character is Little Red Riding Hood. To create this costume, wear a full red skirt with crinoline underneath it and a long-sleeved red shirt. Complete the look with a fur-lined red cape. If you can't find such a cape, make one made of a red sheet and some faux fur. Wear a pair of Mary Janes and carry a basket filled with goodies.
- To dress as Pinocchio, wear a yellow long-sleeved shirt and a pair of red shorts. Tie a blue cloth into a bow around your neck as Pinocchio's bow tie. Add a yellow fedora with a blue ribbon tied around the band and a red feather tucked into it. Create a fake long nose using a soft putty substance you can find at a party store. The substance will harden onto your face once you mold it into a nose. Poke nostril holes into it before it hardens.
- Another storybook costume idea for a man is Old King Cole. Wear a shiny white shirt and a pair of short trousers, paired with tall socks as the base of the costume. Create a cloak for the costume using a bathrobe with fake fur sewn around the edges. Make a crown for the costume using cardboard.
