Lora Garrett To Compete For Miss Indiana"s Outstanding Teen 2007
Lora Garrett, the reigning Miss White River Valley Outstanding Teen will compete in the Miss Indiana Outstanding Teen pageant June 22, 2007, in Zionsville, Indiana.
The winner represents the State of Indiana in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program held in Orlando, Florida this coming August.
Miss America's Outstanding Teen, Inc.
has been organized to encourage positive achievement by helping to nurture and build the scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement of our nation's youth.
Garrett, 17, will be a senior at Yorktown High School, this coming fall.
She is the daughter of Pastor and Mrs.
James Garrett of Muncie, Indiana.
"Lora has been preparing hard for her fourth coming competition this June", stated Debra Gossett, Executive Director of the Miss Hoosier Heartland and Miss White River Valley Scholarship Program, "in addition to her mental and physical preparation, Lora has been diligently working on her platform issue of Multiple Sclerosis - "Care Today...
Cure Tomorrow".
Lora has accumulated over 2500 hours in volunteer service for her MS cause.
Ms.
Garrett's numerous accomplishments include: Authored and implemented (with the Indiana Governor's office) a proclamation designating June 2007 and April 2006, 2005as "Multiple Sclerosis Month" in Indiana; recipient of the 2006 President's Volunteer Service Gold Medal Award Recipient and the WRTV 6 Leadership Award; Job shadowed Dr.
David Mattson of the Indiana Multiple Sclerosis Clinic; Developed and launched her own website for MS- "Care Today...
Cure Tomorrow" which now appears on the Miss Hoosier Heartland web site; Serves as an Ambassador for the Indiana Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society; Created two Mayor's Proclamations designating June 22, 2007 as"Multiple Sclerosis Day"in Indiana; performed with the International Moscow Ballet Troupe;Member of the Anderson Ballet Troupe; Graduate of the Clara R.
Noyes Academy of Ballet International; and named Alternate for the Kraft Ballet Scholarship.
During the week of Miss Indiana's Outstanding Teen Pageant, Lora will be one of 21 contestants competing for the title of Miss Indiana Outstanding Teen 2007 and educational scholarships; each contestant will compete in the areas of private interview, talent, active wear, on-stage presence, evening wear and scholastic achievement.
Lora will be performing an En Pointe Ballet performance for her portion of the talent competition.
Gossett stated, "We are extremely fortunate to have a young lady the caliber of Lora to represent not only our program, but the City of Muncie, she is truly a prime example of today's youth and the hope of the future".
