When you start your own business, you no longer have your job to supply you insurance.
Many people when they are setting up their home-based business to not consider insurance coverage into the startup costs.
The reason is they think they already have a homeowner's policy.
The problem is homeowners policies may not cover the extra equipment you now have in your house for your home business.
You will want to talk with your homeowners insurance company and find out if they will cover your new home office equipment and inventory in your home.
Most likely with just a homeowner's policy, he will have no coverage for your home business to protect you if someone is injured while doing the business in your home.
Without this coverage you may have to pay all the bills yourself, including legal fees and lawyer fees and if things I were a bad, a lawsuit.
For this reason you will want to be sure and get the extra insurance for your home business.
By having home business insurance you can protect yourself and your business.
It is not necessary to purchase an entirely new insurance policy, you will most likely be able to just add to your current homeowners policy.
Be sure to figure out because of all of your office equipment and inventory so that you can add it to your current insurance.
Check with your insurance agent and let them know whether you on your business and how your business is done.
Let them know if you have any employees and all equipment that is included in running your business.
Your insurance agent should let you know what type of insurance would be best for you.
Ask your insurance agent about a business owners package and take the time to go through it to figure out if this is the kind of insurance that you will need to cover your business.
You will also want to look into health insurance for yourself as you will not have it offered from your job now that you're working on your own.
Be sure to take time to look around for the past insurance company to cover you and your employees if you have any.
By keeping yourself ensured adequately, you will have one less thing to worry about with your home business.
