    Power

    • If your GE wall oven won't start cooking, verify that it's plugged into an outlet. Select a baking or broiling setting and an oven temperature. Check your fuses, and replace them if they have broken wires or are black. Reset the home circuit breaker if it is tripped. Open up the housing, and look for broken or burnt-out wires. Replace these components. Look at the baking element. If the element is burnt out or if it's cracked, you must replace it.

    Baking/Broiling

    • Refrain from opening the oven door as this can extend cooking times. Preheat foods to reduce cooking times. Always use the correct cookware and cooking setting for your food. If you are broiling your food, and it gets too brown, move the food rack down to a lower position. If your GE oven comes with a probe, remove it before cooking your food. You must set both the cooking and the temperature setting to "Broil" to broil foods. If your oven still won't broil, check the selector switch and thermostat. Replace these items if they have broken wires or are corroded.

    Smoke/Odor

    • Your oven smokes a lot if it is dirty, or if you are cooking meats that are very fatty. Always trim off excess fat from your meats. Run the self-cleaning cycle if your oven is extremely soiled or if it has an odor. To start the cycle, completely close the oven door, and move the latch into place. If the self-cleaning cycle won't start, take the oven off the timed-cooking or time-delay-cleaning setting. If your oven is still dirty after you run the self-cleaning cycle, run the cycle again as this means that your oven was extremely dirty.

    Additional Issues

    • If you receive an error code, look up the meaning of the error code in your user manual. Error codes vary by GE model. If the oven light does not come on, look at the bulb, and tighten it if loose. Replace if the bulb is burnt out. If the control pad for the light is not working, you must call an authorized GE technician for service. If the oven door won't close, check the door gaskets, and clean if necessary. Verify that the oven is level by using a bubble level. If not level, call your installer to fix the issue.
