    Education

    • Art is taught in schools starting at the preschool level; however, classical art, such as that produced in the Renaissance period, is not introduced until around fourth grade.

    Significance

    • Like mathematics and literacy, learning about multicultural art broadens children's minds and increases knowledge and acceptance about the world. Children involved in the arts, including music and theater, score higher on standardized tests.

    Types

    • Italian art for children includes painting, theater, music, sculpture, film, literature, cuisine and architecture.

    Notable Artists

    • Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo are popular Italian artists introduced to kids at a young age. Roman mythology is also taught starting in elementary school.

    Projects

    • Hands-on projects, such as cooking an Italian meal, creating a version of a classical Italian painting, or visiting a museum are beneficial ways for children to experience Italian art firsthand. Libraries also carry children's books relevant to teaching and learning about art from Italy.
