Learn How to Grout Tile
Grouting is one of the last tasks when your tiling, and the messiest! If your unfamiliar with grout, it's the glue like substance that you use to fill the gaps between tiles.
I'm going to run through with you how to grout and show some tricks along the way.
Types of grout Cement based, epoxy-based, and furan resin grout are the 3 main types of grout, they come in 2 types, Sanded and non-sanded.
You'll want to use sanded grout for gap sizes bigger than 1/8 of an inch.
Grout color Decide what color grout will compliment your tiles.
Dark grout is great for hiding dirt, best used for the kitchen floor.
Lighter grouts highlight the color in the brighter tiles.
Think ahead When tiling the floor think about how you can finish the job without having to walk across the tiles.
Pre-grouting Before you start grouting remove all dirt and excessive adhesive with a razor blade.
Check your grout guidelines, you may be required to moisten the joints.
Applying the grout Have your rubber grout float ready to apply the grout at a 45 degree angle.
This will forces the grout into the joint.
Try to be consistent, finish an area before moving onto the next as the grout may change color.
Cleaning After you have filled the joints clean away the excess grout with the side of your tool, avoid digging into the joint as you may leave an impression.
Finalize the finish by wiping down the tiles and clearing any drips with a dry white cloth.
