104 8

    Types

    • There are four basic types of safety signs commonly used: danger, warning, caution and notice. The type that should be used depends on the danger of the situation.

    Function

    • The danger safety sign is used when the situation is extremely dangerous and death or injury is probable. A warning sign is used when the situation is hazardous and there is a chance of death or injury. A caution sign is used when the situation may result in moderate injury but will not result in death. A notice sign is used to notify employees and the public of company policy that is related to safety but will not result in death or injury.

    Considerations

    • The sign should be placed where it can be seen with enough time to react before the hazard is reached. Safety signs should not be located on movable equipment or in a place that could become blocked by another object. The sign should have emergency lighting if the area would be dark if the power went out.
