Quick Help With Falling Asleep

Did you ever have one of those nights when you simply cannot sleep? Well I have.
What usually happens with me is I lay there and my mind races from one topic to another.
Soon, all I can think is, "I'm gong to be so tired tomorrow!".
It seems the more I try, the less tired I get.
So what are you supposed to do at 3am when you just need help falling asleep? We all know there are drugs out there to help with falling asleep, but how safe are they? How addictive are they? Well I have one way that I use practically on a nightly basis to help with falling asleep.
It does not involve drugs.
So some nights (ok, MOST nights) I will lay in bed for 2 or 3 or sometimes 4 or 5 hours without getting to sleep.
Its no fun.
I had to get some quick help falling asleep.
I found help in an odd place, but it works wonders for me and hopefully it can for you too.
Here's what I do: breath.
I know that is not the breakthrough you were looking for, especially if your reading this at 2am looking for help with falling asleep quickly.
If you give this technique a chance it can help drastically.
It comes from a common practice in meditation, and I do not meditate, but this can work.
So its not actually about the act of breathing.
Its about the concentration you are placing on the breathing.
What you should do is think about only the air going in and out of your body.
Concentrate on the detail of the sensation as the air goes through your nose.
This is meant to get your mind focused in one place.
Its not going to be easy.
Your mind WILL wonder.
That's OK as long as you return your concentration to your breathing as soon as you realize you've lost focus.
It might even seem counterproductive at first.
You might find that the effort to focus on your breathing is making it impossible to go to sleep.
This might be true at first, but if you continue to stick with it, as time passes you will start to feel it work.
It will become easier to focus on your breathing, and actually once you can focus and think about nothing else, that's when sleep will come! So I hope this will help with falling asleep tonight, and if your willing to stick with it, you have a good tool far any night where your tossing and turning.
