How to Plan a Harvest Event in a Church
- 1). Choose a date near the end of October for the harvest event. Plan for a weekend day if you want to have a daylong celebration. Advertise the date through church bulletins and newspaper and online event listings. Ask each family to bring a nonperishable food item for a food pantry as admission. Inform parents whether is appropriate for children to arrive in costumes.
- 2). Create a budget for your event, which will determine the decorations, activities, food and beverages. Possible activities for the event include hay rides, face painting, candy giveaways, pony rides, bobbing for apples, pumpkin carving and a candy apple station.
- 3). Recruit volunteers to help with the harvest event. Assign them positions, such as face painters, hay ride driver, food and beverage servers, activity managers and general help to walk around and fill in where needed.
- 4). Purchase the harvest decorations and supplies. Decorate with pumpkins, hay, fall-colored crepe paper, dried cornstalks and scarecrows. Food suggestions include: popcorn, candy, hot dogs, potato chips, apples and pumpkin seeds. Soda, water and juice should be provided for beverages. Purchase the necessary supplies for the activities at your event.
- 5). Set up a location for food pantry items at the entrance to the event. Collect the nonperishable items as admission, but don't turn away families who forgot to bring their donation. Play, laugh and have a great time at your fall harvest event.
