How to Use a Measuring Tape for Centimeters
- 1). Place the flat tip of a measuring tape along one edge of the object you wish to measure. For example, place the flat tip of a measuring tape along one edge of a block of wood.
- 2). Stretch the measuring tape to the other side of the object you are measuring. Identify where the edge of the object lies in relation to the whole-number centimeters printed on the bottom half of the measuring tape. For example, the edge of the wood block lies between 4 and 5 centimeters.
- 3). Count the number of marks on the tape measure after the first centimeter number. For example, if the wood block measures 4 centimeters plus 3 lines after the 4, the measurement is 4.3 centimeters.
