Logos serve an important purpose for companies as they are the first step towards branding. People recognize companies more through their logos than from different products they make. It poses a huge challenge in front of the designers to design a logo that incorporates all the values and ideologies of the company on a single graphical design.

A creative logo design is made by taking into consideration different variables that affect the overall appeal of the logo. Some of the tips that help in designing a memorable logo are discussed below.

Keep it simple

Most of the popular logos have one thing in common: they are simple. A logo is not the reflection of company's products and services but it's a way through which a company is recognized. The Nike €swoosh' doesn't resemble any sports gear but it's one of the most recognizable logos because of its simplicity. People tend to forget complex designs that are confusing but remember simpler logos that are cleverly designed.

Play with different picture combinations

People are intrigued by unusual combination of simple images. Wrapping two simple images together to create a completely new image may leave a long lasting effect on people. This does not mean that you create complex designs that are difficult to fathom. Clever designs are mostly those designs that provide uniqueness through simplicity.

Size does matter

The size of a logo depends on many factors and it must work on the smallest of objects as well as on the biggest of banners. If a logo is too complex then most of its features would be squashed when used on small objects. The way a logo is intended to be used can help you to decide on the level of complexity possible in the logo designs.

Make Effective use of colors

Color is of secondary importance in any logo designs. The most important part of a logo is its design and the colors to be used with it come much later in the logo design process. Logos must be as effective in black & white as they would be in colors. The contrast relationship can be altered so that logos provide same appeal in monotones also.

It must be kept in mind that some of the web colors can't be reproduced while printing. Hence, the color scheme must include any Pantone colors which can be reproduced with CMYK and RGB processes. However, the color psychology coupled with company's style of doing business must be a driving force behind the choice of colors.

Aspect Ratio

A logo should not be too wide or too tall so that when it's used with some artwork there are no layout problems. A logo that has more or less the same aspect ratio that a business card would have provides more layout options than some extreme aspect ratios that are difficult to reproduce on promotional merchandise and websites.
