Eyes get tired, particularly if you have to stare at a computer screen for eight hours a day. Like other parts of your body, your eyes need to relax, especially if you want to prevent fatigue that is so bad you literally can't see straight. Eye fatigue is not conducive to effective and efficient work. Eye relaxing techniques can help you pamper your orbs and maintain better eyesight. - A good technique for weary eyes is called "palming." Place your elbows on your desk, and put the palms of your hands over your eyes. Lean forward. Rest your head in your hands, close your eyes and deeply inhale through your nose. Hold the inhalation for three seconds while palming your eyes, then exhale deeply and thoroughly.
Keep up the deep breathing for 15 seconds with your eyes covered. Repeat the palming and breathing exercises during the course of the day, or any time your eyes are fatigued, MCR Core Concepts recommends. - Close your eyes and move your eyeballs upward. Hold for a couple of seconds, then slowly move your eyeballs clockwise until you have completed a circle. Then roll your eyeballs counterclockwise for a full circle. Next, move your eyeballs to the right, hold, then slowly move them to the left and hold. Do several sets of these eye rolls, moving your eyeballs slowly and gently.
- Your eyes can get tired if you stare at the same thing, at the same distance from your face, for hours at a time. Change your focus. Hold up a finger, and bring it close to your nose. Focus on it, then move it away from you. Focus on something behind your finger. Focus back on your finger and bring it close to your nose again. Now focus on something in the distance.
Alternating your focus between far objects and near objects gives your eyes a good workout and a change of pace. When your eyes are fixed on one spot for hours on end, your head, neck and other parts of your body also are stationary, which can give you a sore neck and back in addition to eye strain.
