How to Compile a Fashion Portfolio

    • 1). Select a portfolio storage device. According to the London College of Fashion, portfolios can be any size. Select a folder with attachable pages or a pocket portfolio to house your works.

    • 2). Use photos or sketches to illustrate your designs. If you have pieces that have already been produced, use photos of models wearing the clothes. If not, use sketches to represent your design.

    • 3). Title each look. Select a short title of no more than two words that clearly reference the looks in your portfolio. Seek titles that describe the aesthetic of the look or the garment's intended use, such as "Sleek Sophistication" or "Rainy Wear."

    • 4). Compose a paragraph describing your design. Describe each garment concisely, using fashion industry terminology to make reference to the fabrics, silhouettes and garment features. Do not use personal pronouns in your paragraphs, instead focus on the garments themselves.

    • 5). Mount the images, titles and paragraphs on a neutral colored page, sized to fit your portfolio. Use a white, black or gray page to ensure that the eye goes straight to the garments themselves rather than to the page.

    • 6). Create a portfolio title page including your name and the name of your line, if titled. Place the title page at the front of your hinged portfolio, or on top of the pages filed in your portfolio folder.

    • 7). Place completed pages in the portfolio. If your portfolio has clear sheets to hold your pages, slide them into these protectors. If not, organize them and slip them into the slots available to ensure that your portfolio is well organized for viewers.
