Caribbean Cruise and Excursions: Pack Your Bags for Fun!Packing for your cruise vacation does not have to be a huge chore.
Let the places you are going and the excursions or activities you are going to do guide you.
Remember if you are flying into your port of debarkation the airlines have restrictions on weight, size and number of bags.
Stay informed about the restrictions on items you are allowed to carry on.
Your local airport can fill you in on the every changing rules about liquids, sharp items, matches, etc.
Plan on shorts and T-shirts or casual skirts and sundresses for daytime activities for women and girls and shorts and T-shirts for men and boys.
If you have decided ahead of time on your on shore excursions you can dress appropriately.
For example, if you plan on doing a lot of snorkeling, I recommend a light shirt to protect your back from sunburn.
A hat or sun visor is helpful if you are doing a jeep tour or other activities where you will be exposed to the sun a lot.
Of course pack plenty of sunscreen or plan on paying top dollar for it.
Evening wear can vary.
The most formal dress is usually required for the Captain's Dinner.
This is the time to bring out the black tie apparel and glitz.
Tuxedos are not required.
Some cruise lines rent tuxedos if you are so inclined.
Be careful of high heels, the ship does rock.
After a while you will learn the ship swagger, until then be careful.
Some cruises are generally more formal than others, so dress accordingly.
Generally a nice dress or pant outfit for women and long slacks and button down shirt for men is fine for most dinners.
Remember that the ship will be air-conditioned in many areas, so a light sweater or jacket may be helpful.
Shoes take a lot of room in your suitcase so try to take ones that will work for many uses.
Generally a good pair of walking shoes or sandals for on shore excursions and a pair of dress shoes for dinner work for men and women.
Add flip-flops and water shoes depending on your activities and style.
Many of the beaches have coral or shells that make bare feet uncomfortable.
Of course take your swimsuit and cover-up if you are going to go swimming or just want to sun on the deck.
Wraps are readily available at many stops and on the ships.
Take a beach bag or back pack to use to carry things on board and for excursions.
It will make a great shopping bag as well.
Add sunscreen, books, and a music player and you are ready to go! Don't forget your passport or other important papers.
Pack prescriptions and over the counter medicine.
You may want to include things like anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrhea and anti-nausea medication.
A list of your prescriptions in case of an emergency is good too.
Extra film, digital card and batteries for your camera can come in handy.
Don't forget sunglasses.
A light packable rain jacket is a good idea, in case it rains or is cool at night.
Don't pack valuables like jewelry in your suitcase.
On board the ship you will generally have a safe available to use for papers and valuables.
Single dollar bills are helpful if you need to tip off the ship.
Got everything? It sounds like you are ready to go!
