    • 1). Face your C220, with the bucket on the ground, and climb into the cab from the front, using the handles and steps along the way. Adjust the seat with the handle to the front left of the seat, and fasten the seat belt.

    • 2). Lower the seat bar (similar to those used on roller coasters) from behind your head into your lap, and then turn on your Bobcat S220. With the emergency brake engaged (the button near the roof in front of you pushed in) and the area clear, turn on the ignition (located in the top right area of the cab) by inserting your key and turning it. Do not do this unless you are seated in the cab.

Read the safety signs placed throughout the cab before proceeding. These will familiarize you with some of the hazards you face while operating the machine.

    • 3). Learn the basic controls. Practice moving around with the area clear and the bucket about ½- foot off the ground. Push both hand levers to the forward position to advance forward, and then push them both to the rear to go in reverse. Move just the right lever forward to complete a soft left turn. Make a soft right turn by moving just the right lever forward. Make a hard left turn by moving the left handle to the rear and the right lever to the front. Make a hard right turn by pushing the left handle forward and the right lever back. Practice engaging the C220's hydrostatic transmission in a smooth manner.

    • 4). Learn how to use the bucket while both moving and stationary. Press the green button on the left side of the display that says, "Press to Operate Loader. " This is part of the loader's interlocking controls system. Move the bucket up and down with the left foot pedal, and tilt the bucket forward and backward with the right pedal. Practice on a pile of dirt. Just shy of the pile, lower the bucket onto level ground with the left pedal, and then push forward on the right pedal to level it with the ground. With the bucket slowly sliding along the ground, move forward to scoop dirt into the bucket. Lift the bucket slightly with a rear push of the left pedal, and then tilt the bucket slightly with a rear push on the right pedal. With a scoop of dirt in your bucket, back your loader away from the pile. Move the dirt to another location and practice tilting the bucket forward to empty it, and then rearward again to move back to the pile.

    • 5). Practice the finer details of operating the C220 safely. This means carrying loads low, never ramming a bucket into a pile, slowly moving straight up and down slopes, and raising and slowly lowering the bucket while keeping it level.
