When your vision is impaired, even a simple joy such as watching TV can become a chore.
In an early stages of the vision degeneration you begin to have problems focusing on the screen, or you can not read text on the screen.
Later on, watching TV becomes a all-out blurry and unpleasant activity.
So you decide to get a TV lens magnifier.
In this short article we will first present the solution to the problem of blurry and hard-to-see TV.
Then, we will explain in what way a TV screen enlarger helps improve the viewing of the TV.
Finally, we will offer other alternative TV magnifiers such as Eschenbach glasses.
The TV magnifier solves the blurry TV problem When blurry vision, or blurry central vision is affecting your TV viewing, this could have many causes.
You could simply be near-sighted, which you can fix by wearing glasses or contact lenses of the appropriate strength.
There could be other causes such as macular problems, for example onset of macular degeneration.
Macula is the most sensitive part of the retina with highest concentration of vision cells and most accurate detail perception.
If macula goes bad, the central vision worsens and the patient has difficulty focusing, difficulty reading, and difficulty watching TV.
How does the TV magnifier help? TV magnifiers help with the blurry vision in two ways First, since the TV magnifier screen must reside a few inches off the screen, it brings the screen image closer to us.
Second, due to its lens (the type of lens is the "flat", or the Fresnel type lens), it increases the viewing angle of the TV image, by as much as 2x.
What does that mean? When the viewing angle is increased 2 times, the TV picture is received on a larger surface on the retina, about four times larger, and not only on the macula.
With that, macula is to a large extent relieved of the duty to accurately decode the image, and this duty is relegated to the surrounding vision cells on the retina.
That way, the degenerated macula becomes less of a source of the blurry vision, and we see the TV screen more clearly.
Alternative to television magnifier - Eschenbach glasses As an alternative to a Fresnel type lens television screen magnifier, you could use Eschenbach type magnifying eyeglasses which hold two lenses for each eye.
A simple binocular effect will enable you to increase the viewing angle by 2x, or achieve magnification of 2x.
The advantage of Eschenbach magnifiers is that they are small and handy.
The disadvantage is that they could be heavy to wear, and take time to adjust to them.
