Fire-Stop Methods for Conveyors
- Linear heat detectors, also known as LHDs, are long pieces of electrical wiring with a steel coating. The wiring detects fires within the conveyor belt machinery by detecting heat that can then enable the system to take appropriate action. The wiring cables are in numerous locations throughout the conveyor machinery, including underneath the belt as it is common for falling debris to cause fires.
- A sprinkler system is a method for preventing fires from spreading within conveyor belt machinery. When informed that a fire is taking place along the length of the conveyor, sprinkler systems can be turned on at the appropriate location. The newer the system installed on the machinery, the more accurate the location detection can be made and the more efficient the response time.
- Thermal imaging systems are a method for detecting fires within conveyor machinery. Infrared cameras are used to detect heat from potential fires, which could then be dealt with accordingly. The detection equipment is mostly used with the static machinery parts underneath the conveyor belt, as imaging scan times are too slow for fast-moving belts.
- Spark detectors are a method used for fire detection. The machinery detects sparks and small glowing embers. Spark detectors are used within internal sections of the conveyor belt due to the lack of light required for effective detection.
