Want an Electric Bicycle - Low on Cash?
Many people have changed from a gas guzzling, space hogging, automobile to an electric, small, scooter.
That's a great idea for going to work, shopping or just visiting.
However, electric scooters cost over a thousand dollars.
There's an easier way that I just discovered.
For less than four hundred dollars, one can purchase a kit that will change your regular, old bicycle into a hill climbing electric bicycle.
If you purchase the right kit, it will be easy to install in just a few minutes, and it takes no special mechanical skills.
That bicycle that's sitting in the garage, because there are too many hills over which you can't navigate, can become the vehicle that conquers that big hill that always defeats your pleasure in riding your bike.
It is definitely a possibility, but there are some pitfalls one must consider.
First, when riding on highways, the bicyclist, whether on an electric bicycle or not, can be in danger.
Highways are primarily built for automobiles, and they are much bigger and more powerful than bicycles, of course.
It is the bicyclist's responsibility to ride on the side of the road and with the traffic.
Especially when traffic is heavy, a bicyclist must move as far to the right side of the road as possible for one's safety.
Then one must consider the weather.
There is no windshield wiper on bicycles as on automobiles, and a heavy rain or snow can obscure the vision of the bicyclist.
If there is ice on the highway, the cyclist is not only in danger of slipping on the ice, but is also in danger of being hit by an automobile that has skidded on the ice.
Also, bicycles have no heater, so health may be compromised.
Bicycles of any kind are best in good weather only.
Electric bicycles can only go ten to twenty miles - according to what kind of battery is installed - without being recharged, and only about fifteen miles per hour.
If one must travel more than twenty miles to arrive at work, one will have to do some pedaling.
That means there will be a sweaty and tired person arriving at work.
Not a good idea.
For trips of twenty miles or less, and in reasonably nice weather and with the proper gear, an electric bicycle kit to get your old bicycle out of the garage and enjoy an economical and peaceful ride, is the way to go.
