Even in this down economy, video games seem to defy the rules.
The gaming market has grown steadily for years, defying the odds when it comes to following trends.
One of the most successful type of video game on the market today is the genre of the MMORPG.
MMORPG stands for massively multiplayer online role playing game, and this is a type of game that has been around for a while, but has very recently started to flourish.
MMORPGs are in a class all of their own when it comes to gameplay.
Notice that the first M stands for massively.
This is because in MMORPGs, there can be thousands upon thousands of people online at any given time.
In this kind of game, people interact with each other over long periods of time.
This differs from other online games in that a lot of times, people playing standard online multiplayer games will play one or two matches with each other, then never see each other again.
MMORPGs, however, are completely built around the art of interaction.
Whether people are trading with each other in major towns online, fighting against each other, or running dungeons or raids as large groups of people, there is a feeling of camaraderie and fellowship that exists in an MMO that simply does not exist in any other type of video game.
There is a depth to the gameplay of an MMORPG that is unmatched by any other type of game.
People playing the game will have to decide on what type of role they want to play and they will need to expand on that.
They are structured around different classes which all take on different roles.
Typically, in a group, there will be three different types of player controlled character.
Tanks, which takes the majority of the damage; healers, who heal the other players in battle, and DPS, who are the damage dealers.
In addition to choosing a class, players can also choose professions and typically decide if they want to run dungeons and raids, or if they want to work with the server economy, buying, crafting, and selling items in-game.
Regardless of which MMORPG a person chooses, this formula is pretty standard.
Most MMO games have a system like this in place now and it is very rare to find that one that breaks the mold in that aspect.
Having a structured system like this encourages people to work together to accomplish larger goals and it encourages everyone to know their role and to know it well.
As such, playing an MMORPG can be an enlightening experience for anyone.
