Putting is an important part of your golf game.
Once your ball has made it to the green, all that's left is getting it in the hole in as few strokes as possible.
While this may sound like an easy feat, it can be difficult for some golfers.
For this reason, there are putting drills that can be very beneficial to those struggling with these shots.
-The One Handed Putting Drill In this practice technique, you stand in one spot, and hit 10 balls toward the hole with your training hand (usually the same hand you write with).
This will enable you to keep this hand steady and follow through with the stroke.
This drill can also be performed with the opposite hand, known as your target hand.
This will help you better aim for the hole, and focus on your follow through with only this hand.
These two putting drills help you notice any hand movement in your swings.
If either hand is turning during your shot, it is likely to harbor your ability to put well.
These drills will help you learn how to steady your hands, so that when they come together, they will be more effective.
-Putting with One (or Both) Eyes Closed By closing one of your eyes while putting, you can reduce the chance of lifting your head before you should.
Using only one eye will force you to concentrate harder on the ball, and not look away prematurely.
Closing both eyes may seem to make it impossible to make a putt, but it can actually be beneficial to your skills.
Studies have shown that there is some brain/muscle interference when putting with your eyes open, and running these putting drills can help you overtake the distractions by making you rely more on your hands than sight to guide the ball to the hole.
The eyes closed drill can be performed in different ways.
You can begin by simply closing your eyes and aimlessly hitting balls on the putting green.
This will allow you to adapt to using your hands more.
Another variation of this practice drill involves putting first with your eyes open, then doing it again from the same exact location with your eyes closed.
-The Alignment Drill This drill will show you how aligned your stroke is.
To do this drill, begin by placing two golf clubs parallel to each other with about 6 inches in between them.
Putt the ball down the center of the two clubs, noticing the alignment on impact and during the back stroke and follow through.
