How Do I Stop the Electronic Ignition on a Viking Range?

    • 1). Check the plug from your range to the wall. Make sure the range is plugged into a grounded outlet. If you do not have a grounded outlet and you are using a two-prong to three-prong adapter, you can ground the adapter by unscrewing the outlet's faceplate mounting screw and screwing the adapter into the outlet with the same screw. This will also ensure the plug is connected with the correct orientation for proper polarity.

    • 2). Clean the burners thoroughly. If your range is continuing to ignite, leave it unplugged through the rest of the cleaning process to prevent shocks. Remove the grates, bowls and burner caps from the range top. Wash them in warm, soapy water or run them through the dishwasher. Allow them to dry thoroughly.

    • 3). Clean the igniters at each burner base (underneath the grate, burner cap and burner head). The igniter is a small cylinder located at each burner. If any moisture or dirt gets into the igniters, they can malfunction, erroneously sensing that there is gas present and continuously igniting. Use a soft cloth to clean each igniter and thoroughly dry them. Use a can of compressed air and spray a short blast into each igniter to push out any dirt or moisture after you clean them.

    • 4). Reassemble the range components once dry and plug the range back into the wall. Test the operation. If it continues to spark without stopping, you will need to contact Viking for repairs.
