How to Not Be Tense During a Job Interview

    • 1). Arrive early to the interview so you can take an extra couple of minutes to sit in the car and calm down.

    • 2). Remember that you are there because the employer wants you to be. Nobody enjoys wasting time, much less waste time interviewing someone unworthy of the advertised position.

    • 3). Breathe deeply. Inhale through your nose as far as you can, and then slowly exhale.

    • 4). Imagine the most comfortable place you can. For example, if you enjoy spending weekends on the beach, imagine a calm, quiet beach without any other beach-goers and the ocean making soft waves. Immerse yourself in the image, which can have a significant impact on helping you relax.

    • 5). Avoid nervous behaviors during the interview. Remain silent until you find your words versus using non-words like "uh" and "um." Inflect your voice versus being monotone and lifeless. Avoid jokes and nervous laughter since you must act mature in a professional environment.
