Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects nearly 10% of the female population.
To be diagnosed with it can be devastating news as it can cause difficulty in conceiving and its worse, render a woman infertile.
Many women will spend years trying to conceive without success and those that do may not carry full term, adding the distress of many miscarriages to an already distressing condition.
Infertility is not the only effect though, acne, excess body and facial hair and excess weight are also a result of hormonal imbalances that cause upset and can lead to depression in many women who suffer with PCOS.
Apart from the cosmetic affects there are also more long term health issues as sufferers are more likely to develop type ll diabetes and heart conditions later on in life.
Current treatment is antibiotics for acne and the oral contraceptive pill such as Dianette to regulate the menstrual cycle and expensive IVF treatment to try and help women conceive, adding significant expense to the ability to become a parent.
Many women are never successful.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is exactly as it sounds.
The eggs from the ovaries are not released every month but become encysted.
Some cysts are known to be up to 12cms, causing severe abdominal pain.
As a result the eggs cannot travel down the fallopian tube and become fertilised.
Current medication only masks the symptoms and doesn't deal with the underlying problem which is hormonal imbalances.
Our bodies are evolved for dealing with fluctuations but our modern diet, stresses and lifestyle can place a great and unrelenting demand on our bodies that cannot cope with over a sustained period of time.
More and more women and looking to a lifestyle change and dietary plan to help their bodies help themselves and with astonishing results.
Even those women who have suffered from extreme PCOS for ten years or more have eradicated all of their symptoms in as little as a couple of months.
Many are now mothers of bouncing babies conceived naturally.
