pioneering travel, but whilst I have now been travelling for over 60 years, the travel of today is no longer in the same realms as 50 years ago; there are not many places left where you will go on holiday without somebody having been there before.
That being said, it is still a case of exciting adventure for the person who is embarking on their first holiday to an unknown place (as far as they are concerned) or even the frequent traveller who is venturing outside their normal area of knowledge.
However or wherever the mood takes your fancy, there is no place for a casual approach, if it is your first visit to a new destination and it is imperative that you take all the necessary steps in order to prevent the holiday becoming a disaster.
Now that the Internet has well become of age, it is possible to find out a lot of information that will assist in planning your travel, however, I am providing here some basic points that really must be taken seriously to ensure you enjoy every minute of your travels.
Therefore, the first thing that should be done is to sit down and make a comprehensive list of the things to be taken into consideration: 1.
Where do you want to take your vacation? 2.
Are there any problems in that country or area (local unrest - gangskidnappings -diseases etc)? 3.
List the places where you might find out about such problems.
4.
Insurance - one of the most vital things to be undertaken both from a medical and safety aspect.
5.
Is your passport up-to date with adequate time left in case anything went wrong? 6.
Is a visa necessary to visit the area and how long does it take to obtain.
7.
Are there any restrictions on the amount of money you can take into the country and also out of the country? 8.
What is the best way of getting to the country and can you go anywhere else en-route.
9.
Will you be taking young children or babies with you, there are lots of implications, if you are and this will need to be looked at carefully.
10.
When is the best time in the year to visit that place, this is very important - there could be hurricanes - too hot weather, too cold - there is usually an ideal time to visit -remember seasons are at different time in different parts of the world.
11.
Consider the length of time you will be flying - it is possible on long haul flights to take a stop over half way.
12.
Look after your money - find out the best way to take your funds and what would happen if you were robbed or lost your wallet etc.
, Having travelled to practically every country around the world I cannot over emphasize the importance of careful planning and take care of your security, but do not be alarmed at what might happen, it depends on where you decide to go and you would be extremely unlucky to suffer, if you take the right precautions.
