How to Make a Digital Scrapbooking Layout for Your Baby

Digital scrapbooking provides a convenient and affordable way to preserve special memories from your baby’s first year. This tutorial will show you how to construct a simple digital scrapbook page using Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. The process is very similar for most other programs, however.
How to Begin Your Digital Scrapbook Page

You can begin your project by opening a new document to use as the base of your digital scrapbook page. Patterned paper can be found on digital scrapbooking sites such as Shabby Princess or you can use the digital scrapbook graphics available in Adobe Photoshop Elements. This sample baby scrapbook layout uses the ILoveTheSea background from Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Open the baby photo or photos you want to include on your page.
Select the elliptical marquee tool from the icon menu on the left hand side of the page. In the top left hand corner, set the Feather selection to between 200 and 300 px. Draw a circle around the focal point of your image. Select Copy from the Edit menu.

Go back to your original background. Paste your photo on your digital scrapbook layout. Resize as needed. Repeat this process if you are making a baby scrapbook page with multiple pictures.

Use the text tool to add scrapbook journaling to your layout. Experiment with font sizes, styles, and colors to add visual interest to your page. Youngsook BTN is the font used in this sample digital scrapbook layout. If you don't like the selection of fonts currently available on your computer, About Desktop Publishing has a list of places you can search for free fonts.

Add any additional digital scrapbook embellishments that are desired. In this example, Ribbon 07 from the Adobe Photoshop Elements Graphics menu was used to make borders on the top and bottom of the baby scrapbook layout.
When you are finished, go to the File menu and select Save As. Choose JPEG from the Format menu and type in an appropriate name for your baby scrapbook page. You can then either print the image at home or order a copy of your digital scrapbook layout from an online photo developer such as Snapfish.
