Household Chores

• Vacuuming, washing clothes, dusting, cooking and washing dishes are daily duties for homemakers. This is a big part of the job, and household heads expect their homes to be clean when they arrive in the evening. If you are the homemaker in your own home, your spouse may be a bit flexible. • Homemakers must care for children by cleaning, feeding and clothing them. They may also be responsible for taking them to school, day care or recreational and sports activities. As a homemaker, you help train and discipline the children that you are responsible for. You may need to place young children on a feeding and napping schedule. It is also your job to enforce consequences when the children display unruly behaviors.
  
  

Shopping

• Grocery shopping is a duty that the majority of homemakers perform. You can either write a grocery list and make a trip to the store, or you can order groceries online and have them delivered. Homemakers with young children to care for may find online shopping and delivery services more convenient. Aside from groceries, you may also be responsible for purchasing household cleaning items, toiletries, personal hygiene products and clothing.
  
  

Household Budget Planning

• Homemakers may also have budgeting responsibilities. The household head may give you a specific amount of money each week to cover groceries, gas, cleaning products and miscellaneous expenses. If you receive a lump sum of money each week, you must budget this money so that you can take care of all household needs and have some cash left over for emergencies.
